Ford Mondeo: Parking Brake Ratchet Concern

Ford is recalling 65,284 Mondeo and Cougar vehicles in the United Kingdom because the parking brake ratchet teeth can wear down over time, potentially reducing the brake's ability to hold the vehicle in place. The issue occurs when the ratchet doesn't fully engage, causing damage that gradually spreads to other teeth. Ford will replace the parking brake lever assembly with a revised version.

Product
Vehicles: FORD MONDEO, FORD COUGAR. Units affected: 65,284
Reason
The design of the parking brake ratchet teeth can allow a partial engagement resulting in damage to the tooth which can then slip to the next tooth. If ignored the wear will continue on the next tooth and the efficiency of the parking brake may become insufficient to hold the vehicle in place. Remedy: Replace parking brake lever assembly with one that has a revised tooth profile.
