2017 BMW K1600gt - Electrical

BMW is recalling approximately 53,000 K1600 series motorcycles from 2017-2025 because the reverse gear control unit may not be properly sealed, allowing water to enter and cause corrosion. A corroded control unit could short circuit, overheat, and create a fire risk, while also potentially disabling the turn signals and reverse function. BMW will contact owners by mail and ask them to have the control unit replaced at a dealership.

Reason
Issue: On certain motorcycles, the reverse gear control unit may not have been sealed properly. As a result, water could enter the control unit and cause it to corrode. Safety Risk: A short circuit can create the risk of a fire. Turn signals that don't work may cause a person not to recognize when the rider intends to turn or change lanes and could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: BMW Motorrad will notify owners by mail and advise you...
