Subaru Impreza: Airbag May Not Deploy

Subaru Impreza Airbag Recall Summary Subaru is recalling 408 Impreza vehicles in the United Kingdom because a faulty Occupant Detection System can incorrectly disable the passenger airbag, preventing it from deploying in a frontal crash. The system may malfunction due to a capacitance issue, which is indicated by a warning light on the dashboard. Subaru will replace the Occupant Detection Unit to fix the problem.

Product
Vehicles: SUBARU IMPREZA. Units affected: 408
Reason
Certain circumstances can trigger the Occupant Detection System (ODS) to incorrectly detect a high rise in capacitance which deactivates the ODS and turns the passenger airbag off. This is signalled to the driver via the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). If a heavy frontal collision occurs after the MIL illuminates the airbag will not deploy. Remedy: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and replace the Occupant Detection Unit.
