Supervalu And Centra Recall Salmon And Prawn Cocktail Products Because Of Contamination With Listeria Monocytogenes

SuperValu and Centra are recalling multiple salmon and prawn cocktail products because they contain Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. The affected products include various sizes of smoked salmon, applewood smoked salmon, BBQ salmon, and prawn cocktail items sold under the SuperValu, Centra, and Inspired by Centra brands in the United Kingdom. Listeria infection can cause flu-like symptoms such as high temperature, muscle ache, nausea, and diarrhea, and may be more serious in people over 65, pregnant women, babies under one month old, and those with weakened immune systems.

Reason

The presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the products listed above. Symptoms caused by Listeria monocytogenes can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis. Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.
