Chevrolet Nubira: Possibility That Brake Lights May Stay On

Recall Summary Chevrolet is recalling about 8,946 Nubira and Lacetti vehicles because the brake light switch can become misaligned if pressure is accidentally applied to the brake pedal, causing the brake lights to stay on even when braking is not occurring. This can drain the vehicle's battery if the lights remain on when the ignition is off. Chevrolet will replace the brake lamp switch with a modified version to fix the problem.

Product
Vehicles: CHEVROLET NUBIRA, CHEVROLET LACETTI. Units affected: 8,946
Reason
The brake light switch may become maladjusted if an upward force is inadvertently applied to the brake pedal. This may cause the brake lights to remain illuminated without the brake being applied. If ignored this condition may result in the vehicle being driven with the brake lights permanently illuminated. Also if affected the brake lights may remain illuminated with the vehicle ignition switched off which may result in a discharged battery. Remedy: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and fit a modified brake lamp switch.
