Mercedes Benz S Class: Automatic Transmission May Malfunction
Recall Summary Mercedes-Benz is recalling 723 S Class vehicles with 6-cylinder diesel engines and 9-speed automatic transmissions because the wiring harness for the starter, alternator, and transmission may be positioned too close to the exhaust system. Heat damage to this wiring could cause the transmission to unexpectedly shift into neutral while driving or prevent the parking brake function from working properly. Affected vehicle owners should have their wiring harness inspected and rerouted or replaced if necessary.
