Honda Motor CO Stream: Passenger Side Airbag May Fail To Deploy Correctly

Honda is recalling over 1.5 million vehicles (Stream, Civic, CR-V, Jazz, and Accord models) because the front passenger airbag inflators may have been made with faulty propellant wafers that could cause the airbag to deploy abnormally or the inflator to rupture during a crash. This defect increases the risk of injury to passengers and could potentially cause a fire inside the vehicle. Affected owners should have their airbag inflator modules inspected and replaced if necessary.

Product
Vehicles: HONDA MOTOR CO STREAM, HONDA MOTOR CO CIVIC, HONDA MOTOR CO CR-V, HONDA MOTOR CO JAZZ, HONDA MOTOR CO ACCORD. Units affected: 1,509,125
Reason
The subject vehicles are equipped with front passenger airbag inflators which could have been assembled with improperly manufactured propellant wafers. Improperly manufactured propellant wafers could cause the inflator to rupture and the front passenger airbag to deploy abnormally in a crash. This could result in increased risk of injury to the occupant or in a thermal issue in the interior compartment which may lead to fire. Remedy: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected to inspect and where necessary replace the airbag inflator module.
