BMW Motorrad K1600 Gt: In Transmissions For Replacement Free Gearwheels 6th Gear Were Installed That Do Not Meet The Specifications.

Recall Summary BMW Motorrad is recalling 15 K1600 GT, K1600 GTL, and K1600B motorcycles because some replacement 6th gear components in the transmission do not meet specifications. This defect can cause excessive wear on gearshift forks and prevent proper gear changes, potentially resulting in two gears engaging simultaneously, which could lock the rear wheel or damage gear teeth. Affected owners will have the 6th gear component replaced at no cost.

Reason
In some cases the free gearwheels 6th gear that were installed do not meet the specifications. For this reason extended full load operation in 6th gear can cause increased wear of thegearshift forks. In the event of a fault the gear change is not performed correctly. this could lead to a dual engagement of two gears. A dual engagement can result in a blocked rear wheel and/or a shear off of the gear wheels depending on the speed and road friction coefficient. Remedy: To check transmission number and if in affected range then the free gearwheel for 6th gear to be replaced.
