BMW Motorrad F800gs: Machine Can Be Ridden With Side Stand Extended

Recall Summary BMW Motorrad is recalling 414 F800GS and F700GS motorcycles because the side-stand switch may loosen and fail due to inadequate mounting. If the switch malfunctions, the engine won't shut off when the side stand is extended with the bike in gear, allowing the motorcycle to be ridden with the stand down. BMW will modify the switch mounting by bolting it securely in place.

Product
Vehicles: BMW MOTORRAD F800GS, BMW MOTORRAD F700GS. Units affected: 414
Reason
The mounting of the side-stand switch with a circlip is insufficient. As a result of this the side-stand switch may work loose and be damaged. If the side-stand switch does not function correctly the engine is no longer switched off when the side-stand is extended and a gear engaged. It would be possible for the driver to drive off with the side stand extended. Remedy: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected to modify the side stand switch mounting. The switch will be bolted on.
