Toyota () Iq: Electric Power Steering Sensor May Malfunction

Toyota is recalling 76,794 iQ vehicles because the electric power steering sensor may malfunction when the vehicle drives over certain roadside rumble strips, potentially causing the steering to require extra effort from the driver. The issue stems from the Electric Power Steering control unit misinterpreting sensor signals under these specific road conditions. Toyota will either reprogram the control unit or replace the steering column and control unit to fix the problem.

Reason
If the vehicle is driven over/on certain types of roadside safety side strips (Rumble Strips) it is possible that the Electric Power Steering (EPS) control unit could incorrectly interpret the signal from the sensor. Remedy: Recall all affected vehicles and either reprogramme the EPS control unit or the replacement of the steering column and control unit.
