BMW Motorrad R Series: ABS May Fail

BMW Motorrad R Series Recall Summary BMW Motorrad is recalling 4,582 R Series motorcycles because the ABS sensor cable can be incorrectly routed during tire changes, potentially causing it to rub against the brake disc and fail. This affects only the ABS function, not the regular braking system. Affected owners will have the ABS sensor cable rerouted as part of the remedy.

Vehicles: BMW MOTORRAD R SERIES. Units affected: 4,582
Reason
When work involving removal of the left brake caliper is undertaken (i.e. when a tyre is changed) there is a possibility that the ABS sensor cable can be incorrectly routed when the caliper is reinstalled. If it is incorrectly routed the sensor cable can chafe against the brake disc with the result that the ABS function (not the active braking function)can fail. Remedy: Recalled machines will have the ABS sensor cable rerouted.
