Volvo Bus B5tl: Incorrect Oil Pan Fitted

Recall Summary Volvo is recalling approximately 530 B5TL and B5LH buses that may have been fitted with an incorrectly sized oil pan during production. The smaller oil pan can cause the engine to be overfilled with oil, which may lead to engine problems or damage to the catalytic converter and emissions system. The manufacturer will replace the oil pan and dipstick and update the engine software on affected vehicles.

Product
Vehicles: VOLVO BUS B5TL, VOLVO BUS B5LH. Units affected: 530
Reason
It has been established that on certain vehicles fitted with an MDE5 engine they may have been delivered with a lower volume oil pan during production. There is a risk of the sump being overfilled with oil. This could result in either the engine suffering a runaway due to it consuming its own oil or the Catalytic Converter can be contaminated which will affect the exhaust emissions. Remedy: Recall all affected vehicles to replace the oil pan and dip stick also to update the Engine Management System (EMS) software.
