BMW X3: Possibility Of Fire

BMW Recall Summary BMW is recalling 129,012 vehicles (X3, 5 Series, X5, 1 Series, X6, and 7 Series) due to a faulty internal connection in the Fuel Filter Heater that can remain permanently activated in freezing temperatures. This can cause the heater to overheat, drain the battery and prevent the vehicle from starting even when turned off, and in extreme cases, may cause a fire. BMW will replace the Fuel Filter Heater in affected vehicles.

Product
Vehicles: BMW X3, BMW 5 SERIES, BMW X5, BMW 1 SERIES, BMW X6, BMW 7 SERIES. Units affected: 129,012
Reason
Due to a fault with an internal connection within the Fuel Filter Heater (FFH) it is possible that during temperatures below freezing the FFH can remain permanently activated. This will normally cause the FFH to overheat which will result in the inability to start the vehicle due to a flat battery. This can occur even when the ignition is turned off. However in extreme cases it could cause a vehicle fire. Remedy: Recall all affected vehicles to replace the FFH.
