Ford C-max: Oil Sump May Crack Due To The Engine Overheating
Ford Recall Summary Ford is recalling approximately 291,570 vehicles (C-MAX, Galaxy, Focus, S-MAX, Mondeo, and Kuga models) because the engine control software may not properly detect overheating in certain 2.0L diesel engines. If an engine overheats severely, the oil sump can crack and cause oil to leak out. Ford will fix this by updating the engine control software to better detect overheating and alert drivers.

- Product
- Vehicles: FORD C-MAX, FORD GALAXY, FORD FOCUS, FORD S-MAX, FORD MONDEO, FORD KUGA. Units affected: 291,570
- Reason
- The engine control module calibration may not adequately detect an overheat condition in certain 2.0L Duratorq Diesel engines. In extreme cases an overheated engine can result in a breach of the oil sump leading to loss of the engine oil. Remedy: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and download revised software for the control module calibration that improves overheat detection and provides an instrument cluster warning indicator to the driver and engine de-rate strategy.
