Mercedes Benz Unimog: Braking Efficiency May Be Affected
Mercedes-Benz Unimog Brake System Recall Summary Mercedes-Benz is recalling 52 Unimog vehicles because oil carbon and dust contamination can block the ventilation function in the Safety Valve, causing internal air pressure to rise excessively and potentially rupture the air dryer cartridge housing. While the brake system will continue to function, allowing drivers to stop safely, Mercedes-Benz will install a pressure limiting valve to prevent this issue.

- Product
- Vehicles: MERCEDES BENZ UNIMOG. Units affected: 52
- Reason
- It has been established that Oil Carbon and Granulated Dust contamination could cause the ventilation function of the Shutoff and Safety Valve to be impaired. The internal air pressure of the Safety Valve can therefore increase from 18.5bar to over 40bar. This can result in the failure/rupture of the top section of the housing of the air drier cartridge. The brake system will remain operation to enable the driver to bring the vehicle to a control stop after they hear the rupture. Remedy: Recall all affected vehicle to install a pressure limiting valve.
