Honda Motorcycles Cbr1000: Bottom Of The Fuel Tank May Corrode And Allow Fuel To Leak

Honda is recalling 809 CBR1000 motorcycles because the fuel tank cap design can allow fuel to leak onto the road during rapid acceleration and deceleration, and water can enter the tank causing corrosion and engine problems. The fuel tank cap will be replaced with a modified version, and Honda will inspect and replace fuel tanks, pumps, and injectors if water is found inside. This recall affects CBR1000 motorcycles distributed in the United Kingdom.

Reason
The distance between the packing holder and the filler of the fuel tank cap is unsuitable. If the tank cap packing becomes swollen and climbs over the filler sealing failure occurs. When the fuel level is high in that condition if rapid acceleration and deceleration are repeated the fuel level will fluctuate making fuel leak from the gap between the filler mouth and the fuel tank cap packing. The leaked fuel will then be discharged onto the road surface via the drain tube. The fact that fuel leakage may occur under these conditions may constitute a violation of regulations.
