Recall Summary Two cardiac medical devices are being recalled: an Abiomed 14Fr LP introducer kit and IMPELLA CP SmartAssist pump catheters used to support heart function in patients with acute heart failure. The recall was issued because blood clots can form inside the sheath during use, potentially making it difficult to remove the device or causing clots to move and block blood vessels. Three cases of clot formation have been reported in Japan, but no serious patient injuries have been reported. The affected products were distributed between January and May 2026.
