Mazda Mazda6: Corrosion May Form Around The Parking Brake Actuating Shaft And Cause Reduced Handbrake Performance

Mazda is recalling 12,989 Mazda6 vehicles because corrosion can form on the parking brake actuating shaft, making the handbrake harder to operate or preventing it from holding the vehicle in place. Dealers will inspect the parking brake lever and either replace a protective boot or the entire brake caliper, depending on whether corrosion is found. This recall affects vehicles distributed in the United Kingdom.

Vehicles: MAZDA Mazda6. Units affected: 12,989
Reason
On the subject vehicles corrosion may form around the parking brake actuating shaft within the rear brake caliper. This could cause the handbrake to become difficult to operate (greater force required at the lever) or in some cases prevent the parking brake assembly from applying sufficient force at the rear wheels and cause a failure to hold the vehicle. Insufficient force to hold vehicle stationary causing unintentional and unexpected movement of the vehicle. Remedy: Inspect the parking brake actuation lever. If no corrosion is found replace the protective boot with a modified assembly....
