- Maintenance inspections have revealed cracking around the periphery of the weld retaining the king pin to the upper coupler apron plate on specified trailers. Remedy: Depending on the condition of the coupling on inspection it will either be reworked by the addition of stiffer plates or by the replacement of the welded-in king pin by a bolt-in king pin.
