Honda Motorcycles Gl1800a-2: Improper Welds In Frame Cross Member

Honda is recalling 240 GL1800A-2 and GL1800A-3 motorcycles sold in the United Kingdom because welds in the frame do not meet specifications and may crack under stress from rough roads or potholes. In severe cases, cracking could lead to rear suspension collapse or separation of the lower cross member. Owners will be contacted for inspection, with repairs involving weld reinforcement or frame replacement as needed.

Product
Vehicles: HONDA MOTORCYCLES GL1800A-2, HONDA MOTORCYCLES GL1800A-3. Units affected: 240
Reason
The frame welds do not meet manufacturing specifications. High loads created when riding on rough road surfaces or over pot holes can cause the affected welds to crack. In the worst case the welded area could break resulting in rear suspension collapse or lower cross member separation. Remedy: Recall affected machines for inspection. Any repairs will consist of reinforcement of the welds and where cracks are identified during the initial inspection a new countermeasure frame will be installed.
